The Shack Neighborhood House: Demolition

In May of 2016, USSE2 kicked off an on-going partnership with the Shack Neighborhood House of Morgantown, WV.  When we approached the Shack earlier in the year, they specified a few items which they needed assistance in improving.  The Shack’s pool seemed to be at the epicenter of their needs, and we quickly decided upon making that our first service task.

The Shack was founded by local coal miners in the 1930s.  Since then, it has been a cornerstone in the Morgantown area for community, growth, and friendship.  The Shack has provided countless families with care and laughter for generation after generation.  One of the items that so many remember enjoying with their time at the Shack is the pool.  Though the pool has received care and maintenance throughout the years, it was in dire need of an upgrade.  To begin that process, USSE2 drafted plans to bring their decades old pool pump house into the 21st century.

On Saturday, October 15th, USSE2 along with a couple University groups began the demolition phase of construction/deconstruction.  We were able to tear down the entire building in half a day because of all the hard working volunteers.  Take a look at the photos below to see our progress!
